So I talk about this show a lot on Z104, but I am in LOVE with NBC's show Songland, where talented songwriters compete to compose a new song for a different artist each week. Essentially, songwriters perform their original work for the featured artist and 3 producers who are on the show every week; Shane McAnally, a country music producer, Ester Dean, who has written #1 hits for Katy Perry, Rihanna and others, and Ryan Tedder, lead singer for One Republic who has written songs for Ed Sheeran, Adele, Beyoncé and many more. After all the writers perform, the artist selects 3 of those songs to each be further developed with one of the producers. A second, more finished version of each of those 3 songs is performed by the original writers, and the artist makes their final decision about which song they will adopt for their album.
So far the show has featured John Legend, Will.I.Am and Kelsea Ballerini.
Last night the featured artist was Jonas Brothers. After picking three songs from writers Rynn, Remmi and Able Heart to be further developed by the producers, they settled on a song called "Greenlight" by Able Heart. You can here Able's original version of the song, the re-worked version produced by Ester Dean and the Jonas Brothers final version of the song below.
Rynn wrote a ballad called "Crowded Places" that was selected for further development with Shane McAnally. You can hear both the original and produced versions below.
Remmi was the third writer whose song was chosen by the Jonas Brothers to be produced. You can hear her original "Flickering" and the version produced with Ryan Tedder, which was renamed "Do You Think Of Me" below.
