Dua Lipa Sings the "New Rules" of COVID-19 Dating with James Corden

Dua Lipa joined James Corden on The Late Late Show last night to parody her own songs, "Don't Start Now" and "New Rules," with a COVID-19 dating remix.

With quarantine throwing cuffing season out the window, a lot of us are re-downloading Tinder or texting our exes out of boredom. Even though we're swiping right at an all-time high, the norms of dating have flipped, and we're being forced to learn how to meet people through a screen. That's why Dua Lipa and James Corden came together to tell us about the struggle of quarantine dating to the tune of "Don't Start Now" and "New Rules."

The two start with "Don't Start Now," where they talk about being lonely (and a little desperate) in quarantine, and taking to dating apps and old flames to feel something again. We watch a couple go through the awkward first steps of Zoom dates and bad network connections before switching to "New Rules," where we learn about the new protocols of dating in-person. It's the usual stuff: take your temperature, wear a mask, stand six feet apart, and douse yourself in hand sanitizer before going in for that hug.

While the video is hilarious and painfully accurate, I can't help but think about how Dua and James have been in relationships during the entirety of quarantine. They can't really relate to those lyrics like the rest of us who are in committed relationships to Netflix and wine. If you'd like to ask a professional single guy what it's like trying to date in quarantine, my DMs are open at @radiokaydo on Instagram and Twitter.
