If you’ve spent any time with teenagers, you know they’re not always easy to please. Their eye rolls and moody moments can be annoying day-to-day, but they could threaten to ruin the fun you’re trying to have as a family on vacation. That’s why it’s important to choose a destination they’ll approve of, and these are recommended by parents of actual teens who actually enjoyed getaways to these places.

  • St. Petersburg, Florida - It’s not just for retirees anymore! This Gulf Coast city is a favorite for teens thanks to the many record shops, bookstores, and the St. Pete Pier. For those interested in the artsy, there are museums, including The Salvador Dali Museum, dedicated to the works of the surrealist master.
  • New York City - Whether your teen is into the shows on Broadway, the lights of Times Square or shopping on Fifth Avenue, or taking a food tour though Little Italy and Chinatown, there’s bound to be something appealing to them in the Big Apple.
  • Yellowstone National Park - Here teenagers can enjoy the natural wonders and explore more than 2-million acres on foot, bike or horseback. They can check out the famous geyser Old Faithful, wildlife like bears and elk, and endless hikes.
  • Seattle, Washington - Teens and their Gen X parents will love a getaway to the birthplace of grunge. The cool neighborhoods in the Pacific Northwest city are home to trendy coffee shops, thrift stores and spots like Volunteer Park, plus, no visit to Seattle is complete without a stop at the Space Needle or the Museum of Pop Culture, which has exhibits on everything from Nirvana to horror movies.
  • Savannah, Georgia - The fact that it’s known as one of the most haunted cities in America will appeal to teens, and they can also enjoy ghost tours, shopping for cool souvenirs at Savannah College of Art and Design, and lots of delicious food.
  • Chicago, Illinois - You’ll need a few days in the Windy CIty to take in all the teen-friendly sights, like Millennium Park, Navy Pier, The Art Institute of Chicago and Chicago Sports Museum. They may also enjoy an architecture boat tour on the Chicago River and Skydeck Chicago on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower, as well as all that deep-dish pizza.
