Dave Coulier is speaking out on the hate his friend and Full House co-star, John Stamos has been getting after he wore a bald cap "in solidarity" with Coulier, who is currently going through chemotherapy for Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.
Stamos recently posted photos of he and his friend, while wearing a bald cap and posing as if he was shaving Coulier's head. He wrote along with the pictures, "Nothing like throwing on a bald cap and flexing some Photoshop skills to show some love and solidarity with my bro @dcoulier You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity—it’s inspiring. I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way. I love you."
John received quite a few negative comments about the photos, calling him out for only wearing the bald cap, and not really shaving his head. One person wrote, "What a shallow gesture! Couldn’t even cut your hair off for your friend. And you made sure to post it on Instagram to get those likes too."
However, Dave found the bald cap hilarious, and appreciated the gesture, flying across the country to be with his friend during his cancer battle, and as a result spoke out against the backlash Stamos was receiving.
Coulier wrote, "I'm sorry to see a bunch of negative comments as I've just begun my cancer journey. It's our friendship (me and John) and this is how we are handling a very tough time. I've a comedian and humor is what drives me. John knows how to cheer me up and I laughed out loud when he arrived wearing a bald cap — being a true friend and brother."
Dave went on to say that since making his cancer diagnosis public, he's heard from many people that they've been inspired to get their annual exams and screenings as part of early detection efforts, revealing that his sister, mother and niece all passed away from cancer. He said, "We made each other laugh through the worst of it. So, I'm choosing to spread the word about early cancer detection to help people. That's just who I am. I wish nothing but love for all of you."
Stamos' wife, Caitlin McHugh Stamos, commented on Dave's post in defense of her husband, sharing, "I really hope the people who chose to say cruel things about my husband — who flew across the country and did what he could do bring joy to his friend going through chemo — look inward. Instead of tearing down others, take that time to think about how you can bring joy to the people you love."
