Fight Like a Soldier

On January 9th, Sauk Prairie hosts Baraboo in a varsity basketball contest. We are using this day to raise money for Alyssa Gruender’s family, as they continue to fight through this difficult situation. Event will have silent auction, raffle, miracle minute, and even wristbands for you to purchase.

Alyssa Gruender is Sean McGann's fiancé and was hospitalized on Halloween of 2019. While having lunch together, Alyssa lost her speech, slurring her words, and losing her ability to formulate a sentence.

She was taken to the hospital immediately and underwent multiple tests, where no diagnosis was found. With her symptoms getting worse, she was transferred to multiple hospitals and on November 1st, she experienced a major tonic clonic seizure, lasting nearly 3 mins. This sparked a long road of testing, hospital stays, and lead doctors to believe this all stemmed from something in her brain. This lead to the decision of having a brain biopsy on December 11th.

Alyssa still has not received a diagnosis, as her experiences are rare, but now continues all doctors’ appointments at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, staying overnight more times than not in the last two months.

The amount of time in the future that she will continue being readmitted is also unknown. Alyssa’s parents, Brian and Laura, have other children that they have heavily had to rely on family and friends caring for, while they continue to care for Alyssa in the hospital. Being away from their other children has been extremely hard, however they are determined to fight right alongside their loving daughter. The expense of their travels, extensive hospitals stays, dozens of MRI’s, CT scans, and brain surgery, has been astronomical.

Alyssa is a fighter, and while we are unsure of what the future will look like, we are confident that her army of prayer warriors will carry her, Sean, and their families through this.
