Best Pics From the Opening Ceremony — Including That Shirtless Flagbearer

The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics have begun! The stunning Opening Ceremony kicked off on February 9 and there were a bevy of breathtaking moments.

It also marked the return of viral Tongan flagbearer Pita Taufatofua, who made his way through the freezing stadium shirtless and oiled up. You’ll remember Taufatofua — and his abs — when he first went viral for carrying Tonga's flag at Rio's 2016 Opening Ceremony.

The opening ceremony also saw a historic moment between North and South Korea. Athletes from both countries marched into the Opening Ceremony together. South Korean bobsledder Won Yun-jong and North Korean ice hockey player Hwang Chung-gum held onto the Republic of Korea flag together while entering the massive stadium.

Team USA walked in to the tune of 2012 hit PSY’s "Gangnam Style.” There was also a bevy of other epic music moments such as a K-pop medley including BTS' "DNA" to BigBang's "Fantastic Baby.”

The Opening Ceremony also included a spectacular performance of “Imagine” and incredible visuals, including a giant white tiger.

And of course, the lighting of the torch, which traveled 2,018 kilometres and been carried by around 7,500 torchbearers by the time it reached Pyeongchang.
