A Reddit post has kicked off a conversation about careers and romantic relationships. It asks, “What jobs are a turn-off for a serious relationship?” A lot of folks have weighed in on the topic, it got more than 8-thousand responses in just 24 hours.
These are some of the professions people prefer their partner not to have:
- “Anything church related”
- “Politician is an immediate turn-off (I used to cover politicians as a journalist).”
- “Anything with a 12 hour shift. Single dad here, two kids. Work 12's in a manufacturing plant. It's rough on my time with my kids and even worse for a relationship. Trying to meet someone new and date, hangout is nearly impossible.”
- “Real estate agents. They are constantly on their phones as well and you can’t even go to lunch with these people without them texting and calling constantly.”
- “Stripping. Sex Work. Working at a Morgue”
- “Cops”
- “Nightclub worker”
- “As a male teacher, male teacher.”
- “Friend of mine dated a chef, she now advises anyone who will listen to never date one. She says you never see them.”
- “Astrologer, acupuncturist, chiropractor, preacher, naturopath.”
- “Anyone who peddles MLM products and services. It totally wrecked my marriage”
- “Surgeons, I listen to them complain about their wives and kids during surgery”
- “Entrepreneur, with 8 side-hustles”
- “Only Fans”
- “Therapist”
- “Investment bankers. Arrogant and always working”
- “Anything involving the word ‘influencer’”
- “Standup comedians. Weird work hours and locations. Whole months away for fringe festivals. Casual alcohol, drug use, infidelity. Worst of all: anything that happens in your relationship will be made public if they think they can make it funny/interesting.”
