Today is the last day of pride month this year, meaning that the colorful celebrations and parades will be slowly winding down. Just because June is coming to a close, it does not mean that pride--in its larger sense--is also ending. LGBTQ+ individuals need support, ally-ship, and advocacy all year long, which is why we need to make sure our education and support continue for the other 11 months of the year.

I've rounded up some of my favorite LGBTQ+ organizations in the Madison/Wisconsin area that you can support either with monetary donations, volunteering, and even social sharing. Check out the five (with a couple extras) organizations below, and consider giving if you can!

I'm a huge fan of GSAFE as their mission is to create schools and education for LGBTQ+ youth in the Wisconsin area. I've actually participated in lectures given by GSAFE, and they do a really terrific job of laying down the groundwork and teachings to help push LGBTQ+ rights and advocacy. I also love that they have a focused area for education around trans individuals, helping others to understand the many difficulties that non-binary and trans individuals may face in a world that feels so normal to you and me.

Our Lives Magazine

Many publications do not cover LGBTQ+ news, and even fewer do so extensively. Our Lives has only been around for about 14 years, but they've proved to be a prominent publication in Wisconsin, covering LGBTQ+ news, events, and stories that may never make their way to other news outlets. Their role in Wisconsin has helped create a space for LGBTQ+ individuals to see others like them in the headlines, strengthening the community and providing visibility.

New Harvest Foundation

New Harvest is a Dane County organization that raises funds to give grants specifically to LGBTQ+ organizations and projects that work to further rights and community development. They work towards raising money and allocating grants to organizations and nonprofits around the area--they're like a nonprofit for nonprofits! Over the pandemic, they've also created a COVID-19 Emergency Fund program for those who need immediate extra assistance.

Fair Wisconsin

Fair is an organization that looks towards the legal side of things to make sure that LGBTQ+ individuals have legislature that supports them. They work through education, lobbying, and even grassroots movements to support electors and policy that push for equal rights in Wisconsin. Their goal is to end discrimination, from ensuring workplace protections to expanding gender neutral spaces for the LGBTQ+ community. Organizations like Fair are incredibly important as they work toward equality on a legal level for those who may not be protected under current law.
