It's March 1st, which means the Dane County mask mandate has expired, and for the first time in 2022, we are not required to wear masks across the county. This comes after the post-spike of Omicron variant around the holidays which has since dramatically dropped, but the Department of Health Services still considers Dane County (and most of WI) at a very high risk. Masks are still required on Madison public transportation, and it looks like a handful of local businesses will be requiring customers to wear masks.
But for many businesses, restaurants and venues, mask-wearing can be determined by the patron. There is a slight complication with concert venues and the mask mandate as many touring artists have their own mandates that must be enforced by the venues. This means you could be going to a show at The Sylvee on Thursday with no mask requirement, then go to a show on Friday with a medical-grade mask or K/N95 mask requirement.
The best way to know if a mask is required is to check in with your venue's calendar pages, social media or even you digital ticket. You will likely be emailed ahead of time if there is any further requirements in place, and most venues will still keep masks at the door if that's the case.
