Lil Nas X brought all the big Yeehaw energy to his viral hit "Old Town Road" music video.
The 20-year-old rising artist used the song's popular remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus for its video, which features appearances from Chris Rock, Haha Davis, Diplo, Vince Staples, Rico Nasty, Youngkio, Jozzy.
The five-minute clip starts off with Lil Nas X and Billy Ray on the run as cowboys after committing a robbery. However, they end up getting transported to the future, where they bring some country western flair to South Los Angeles.
The video comes nearly six months following the track's initial release. As fans know, after having his song "Old Town Road" pulled off the country charts for not being country enough, Lil Nas X returned to the top of the charts weeks later with a killer country remix, thanks to the help of Billy Ray, that catapulted the track to #1 on the Hot 100 chart, where's it's stayed for the last seven weeks.
"It was so obvious to me after hearing the song just one time. I was thinking, whatâs not country about it?" Billy Ray tweeted in April in response to the song being pulled off Country charts. "Whatâs the rudimentary element of a country and western song? Then I thought, itâs honest, humble, and has an infectious hook, and a banjo. What the hell more do ya need?"
"A few days passed and I went to the studio to do vocals," he continued. "When I finished the pass, I whistled at the end of the song. Thats when the engineer stood up and said, âthat sh*t is fireâ Weâre keeping that! Glad you gusys are digginâ the tune, love seeing all your memeâs.... #OTR."
