Moby, Tiesto & More Revisit Martix Garrix's 'Animals' In 'What We Started'

With just about two weeks ahead of the 20th anniversary of Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Bert Marcus Productions and Giant Interactive have teased the release of their upcoming EDM-focused doc, What We Started, with a clip that chronicles Martin Garrix and his splash onto the scene with his 2013 hit "Animals."

On Thursday (March 8), a teaser was released ahead of the film's March 23 release and recalls the 21-year-old's breakthrough single. "When we started out, we did very small shows to get him going, to get him to experience how the life is and stuff and suddenly we released the record," his manager Watse De Jon explained in the clip.

Little did they know the track would jumpstart Garrix's career and place him into the foresight of dance icons like Moby and Tiësto. "It's an amazing piece of music," Moby said of the hit, which went on to become 2x platinum certified in the US. "That's an example of electronic music becoming Top 40 that seems to have a lot of integrity behind it." Meanwhile, Tiësto went on to applaud the track for being a standout in the 2013 landscape. "Everybody was making hard drops and his was so special," he explained. As we approach the five-year anniversary of the smash in June, it's clear that Garrix's release has made a long-lasting impact on his career. He even performed it during the closing ceremony of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

In addition to detailing Garrix's astounding rise, What We Started will explore "the birth, resurgence, and history of dance music" along with some friendly faces. The film, which is scheduled to hit theaters and available for pre-order, will also feature appearances from the likes of Usher, Ed Sheeran, David Guetta, Afrojack, Paul Oakenfold and more.
