When Animals Attract(weird-o's)
When animals attract(weird-o's)
We love watching the animals in the zoo and the strange things that they do. Some people have a hard time just admiring them. In light of the recent event at Henry Vilas Zoo, we decided to look at some of the more notable instances of people getting too close to the zoo animals and not everyone was as lucky as Ms. Giraffe.

24 year-old Amanda Hall of San Luis Obispo, CA was treated at an area hospital after being kicked in the face by a 2 year-old giraffe named "Wally." Amanda told police "she climbed into the exhibit area because she loves giraffes" He did lick her before he kicked her so clearly, they love you too.
21 year-old Kelly Flynn was arrested at Denver's Zoo after being found partially in the elephant enclosure. Apparently the electrified fence stopped her from getting all the way in. And if you were wondering...yes, alcohol was involved.
Okay, maybe (although deadly) a giraffe or an elephant seem harmless but a grizzly bear is clearly dangerous. You'd think that would keep people away. Well it doesn't. 21 year-old Kenneth Herron of San Francisco was arrested in the bears enclosure and one of them even approached Mr. Herron to sniff his shoe. Police report that he was "acting strangely" inside the exhibit.
Continuing on the bear theme. This story involves a polar bear at the Berlin Zoo. in 2009 a woman climbed the fence and entered the bears moat. As adorable as they look, polar bears don't take kindly to intruders. She was bitten in several places and lucky survived the ordeal. And I know what you're thinking "those crazy Germans" Well an Australian tourist pulled the same thing at a Alaskan zoo. The bear kept the trespassers shoe for 3 days after the attack.
Let's talk tigers. A 21 year-old man was attacked and killed at the Copenhagen Zoo after he entered the Siberian Tiger exhibit. It was the first such incident at the zoo in its 152 year history.
Finally, a white Bengal tiger story. (No, Siegfried and Roy comments here) In 2008 at the Singapore Zoo, 3 white tigers mauled a zoo worker to death. Video shows the man with his arms spread wide and doing nothing to resist the attack. Zoo workers were able to distract the tigers away form the man but he died en-route to the hospital.
